In 3on3 Live Leagues, there are no coaches allowed on gamedays.  However, this does NOT mean your child is not developing as a basketball player.  In fact, many coaches would agree that players (especially younger players) develop much faster playing 3-on-3 basketball vs playing in traditional 5-on-5 leagues.  Many coaches also use 3-on-3 drills as a teaching tool in team practices, basketball camps, and even coaching clinics.  Here are just some of the reasons why many coaches use 3-on-3 basketball as a teaching tool for their players:

  • Simplifies the game.

  • More focused teaching opportunities.

  • Creates more space.

  • More decision-making opportunities.

  • Create more visible options.

  • More repetitions of offensive and defensive situations.

  • Easier to learn and play different positions.

  • Increased engagement and activity.

Benefits to playing in a 3on3 Live League

3-on-3 basketball is an official Olympic sport (called 3x3)

Why is this important?  It gives players an opportunity to watch high level 3x3 basketball and possibly give them something to aspire to.

*3on3 Live uses the official rules and basketball of FIBA 3x3.

Increase Basketball IQ

Fewer teammates and the faster pace of 3x3 basketball games force players to learn better spacing, the importance of moving without the basketball, help-and-recover defense, and how to make quick decisions on the court.

Schedule Friendly

For families with multiple kids, traveling to different locations at different game times to watch their son or daughter play is challenging.  3on3 Live games are held at a single location.

Builds Player Confidence

A more fun atmosphere encourages players to try new moves in game situations without the stress of worrying about a coach yelling at them or subbing them out the game.  Players learn by doing and increased opportunites = more experience which lead to higher confidence a player has in their skillset.

More Creativity

With the amount of space that 3on3 allows and as a players confidence grows, players are encouraged to become more creative with the ball in their hands and won't feel as restricted as they might in a 5on5 setting.

Slows Down 5-on-5

Because 3x3 is so fast paced, playing 5on5 becomes easier and will even seem slower over time.

Increases Fitness

Believe it or not, it takes more mental and physical energy to play 3x3 half court than it does 5on5 full court.  The reason being that the action never stops, even after a made basket.

More Touches

Players are constantly involved in the action!  Fewer teammates and shorter possessions create more opportunities for the player with the ball in their hands.

Develops More Versatile Players

Players aren't pigeon-holed into playing a certain spot on the court just because of their height/ skill level.  All players will handle the ball from all spots of the court.

Parents Love Watching

It can be tough waiting for your kid to get off the bench and barely touch the ball in a basketball game. Parents love to see their children smile and be part of the action.  During 3on3 Live games, parents will definitely see their child involved in every play.

Every Player On The Court Is Engaged

Because there are LESS players on the court, that means that there are MORE players involved.  Everyone on the court on both offense and defense must remain locked in because they are one pass away from guarding the ball or having the ball in their hands.

Links Training to Competition

With more meaningful in game reps, players get to try things they learned or worked on with their personal trainers and/or coaches.

Teaches 'How' to Play Over Plays

Many times players get so caught up in remembering a play and forget how to...just play. Instead of memorizing where to stand next when  the ball gets passed from Player A to Player B, players naturally learn basketball movements whether its a backdoor cut to get open or simply moving out the way to create better spacing.

Fun and Friends

Players have complete control over their team.  No tryouts and no coaches determining playing time or yelling and screaming from the sidelines.

Naturally Develops Leadership & Cooperation

By removing coaches from the equation, players have to work together to make decisions about subbing and plays. Instead of a coach orchestrating their every move, players will discover what works and what doesn’t on their own.

Budget Friendly

3on3 Live League registration prices equal less than half the price of most 5on5 leagues.  You pay less to play more.  What a great deal!

More Accountability

Having less players on the team forces each player to be more accountable.  Not having a player show up is much more devastating to a team of 3 than it is for team of 8 or more.

Forces Next Play Mentality

As athletes, we are all taught to put the bad play behind us and move on to the next play.  This mentality is forced upon players in 3x3 basketball because the next possession happens in a matter of seconds.

Forces Communication

Teammates naturally talk to each other more in a 3on3 game because of the intimacy of the game.  With less teammates and a smaller court, it is just easier to communicate in general so that is a reason why it happens more naturally than in a 5on5 environment.  Communication is one of, if not the most important thing in any team basketball setting.

Want to play but don't have a team?

We got you covered!  Register as a Free Agent and we will find a team that will be a perfect fit for you.  Free Agents will be placed on a team based the position and skill level reported on the registration form.  We do our best to match teams up evenly.
